Biography
Dr. Cannon’s extensive expertise in osteopathic medicine and academic leadership distinguishes him as the Founding Dean of D’Youville University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM). A board-certified physician in Internal Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Addiction Medicine, Dr. Cannon exemplifies a lifelong commitment to patient-centered care and medical education.
His impactful career includes serving as Chief Academic Officer and Designated Institutional Officer at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he adeptly transitioned residency programs and managed significant budgets. As the founder of the innovative Residency Program in Social Medicine, Dr. Cannon has demonstrated an exceptional ability to design and lead transformative academic initiatives.
Dr. Cannon’s passion for bio-psychosocial medicine aligns seamlessly with DYU-COM’s mission to educate compassionate and competent physicians. His academic journey—encompassing a BS and DO from NYIT-College of Osteopathic Medicine, a residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine’s Montefiore, and an International Master’s for Health Leadership from McGill University—has equipped him to establish a dynamic learning environment fostering excellence in education and research.
Under Dr. Cannon’s leadership, DYU-COM is poised to become a beacon of community-oriented primary care education, dedicated to improving healthcare outcomes and preparing future leaders in osteopathic medicine.
