D’Youville College Student Veteran Association (SVA) Receives Community Integration Sub-Grant

Buffalo, New York – February 22, 2017 – D’Youville College today announced that their Student Veteran Association, a national chapter of Student Veterans of America (SVA) has received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to identify and support community-level agencies that provide holistic services to veterans.

This grant has been awarded in response to a nomination by Veterans One-Stop Center of WNY, Inc. (VOCWNY) with whom the D’Youville SVA will be collaborating to provide outreach and education support services to veterans.

“D’Youville is nationally recognized as a leader in Veteran education, and we are proud to be able to support their efforts to empower Veterans to demonstrate leadership and provide service in their campus community and the WNY community as a whole,” said Roger L. Woodworth, president & CEO.

"On behalf of the D'Youville College Student Veteran Association, it is an honor to be a recipient of the America's Warrior Partnership Community Integration grant through the VOCWNY. Having personally spent significant time with the VOCWNY in an internship capacity, as well as working closely with them on other events, I can say that this is just another testament to the dedication that the VOCWNY has in serving the Veterans in our community.

“This grant has enabled the D’Youville SVA to send eleven Student Veterans to the 9th Annual Student Veterans of America (SVA) National Conference (Nat Con). Participation in SVA Nat Con provides our Student Veterans with opportunities to increase their knowledge, skills and abilities as SVA Chapter Leaders.

“In addition to this, the grant has afforded our SVA Chapter with the resources to implement a Student Veteran database and contact management software solution to enhance support services and communications for our SVA chapter members. Our intention has been, and continues to be, serving our Veterans, military aligned students, their families, D'Youville College, and our WNY community. The expanded partnership with VOCWNY, through this grant, will ensure that we can continue to provide the best outreach and education support services to our fellow Veterans and their families,” said Justin Roehner, 2015-17 D’Youville SVA president.

“The Community Integration sub-grant helps foster greater community collaboration and partnership,” said Cheree Tham, Director of America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration.

“We believe our support of the D’Youville College Student Veteran Association will help make VOCWNY more successful. As always, our goal is to support military, Veterans, and their families at the community level. We are excited about what this collaboration will mean to Buffalo and the greater WNY community. ”

Community Integration is a national award program administered by America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration. It is made possible by Wounded Warrior Project funding.

D’Youville College, a private institution in Buffalo, N.Y., is an international leader in healthcare education, offering a complete suite of programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level.

These include nursing, pharmacy, physician assistant, occupational and physical therapy, dietetics, and chiropractic. It also has a strong liberal arts core required of all students. Other programs include business, health care administration, English, chemistry, and more.

Chartered by New York State in 1908, it has expanded both its programs and its campus with a $100 million investment over the past decade. A new academic building and an athletic field were added in 2016. Approximately 650 veterans and military dependents are currently enrolled at D’Youville.

The America’s Warrior Partnership began in Augusta, GA and provides assistance to local Warriors (veterans and service members) of all service branches, regardless of era of service or wounded status.

Services are provided through collaborations on the community level. In 2013, through a funding collaboration with Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration was formed to help other communities form similar organizations that will support the veterans in their local communities.

Each local community remains autonomous as the lead with mentoring and assistance provided by America’s Warrior Partnership Community Integration. Funding is made possible by WWP.
