D'Youville Launches COVID-19 Crisis Response Initiative

Free Summer Learning for High School Seniors

Buffalo, New York – April 07, 2020 – D’Youville announced the launch of its COVID-19 Crisis Response Initiative today. The Initiative will empower students to regain control of their lives and kick-start their college education with free credit-bearing courses this summer, as well as offer support as they transition to the next chapter of their lives.

“D’Youville is tapping into students’ resilience to identify and cultivate tomorrow’s leaders,” said D’Youville President Dr. Lorrie Clemo. “History recognizes that many exceptional leaders evolve through difficult experiences. We are simply embracing this notion as we acknowledge that many students are coping with an unprecedented level of disruption during their senior year of high school.”

The no-cost program is available to 100 current high school seniors who are interested in navigating crises like the COVID-19 pandemic in the future. To be eligible, students must write a 250-word written personal statement about how they have persevered through COVID-19, as well as how they hope to make a difference in their community or the lives of others.

The summer program will provide two courses awarded as six transferable college credits to individuals, which is equal to more than $6,000 in value per person. Applications should be submitted by May 1, 2020. It is anticipated that the list of accepted COVID-19 Crisis Response Scholars will be publicly announced on May 15, 2020.
