D’Youville Receives over $160,000 for Scholarships for Students in the Sciences
Buffalo, New York – September 28, 2017 – On Friday, September 15 the Procknal and Eckert families presented to D'Youville a donation of $160,225 to be used for student scholarships.
The generous donation to the College is a result of a gift made by the estate of Valerie Potrafke in honor of her sister, Josephine A. Procknal, who preceded her in death.
Josephine A. Procknal, Class of ’44, majored in biology and spent several years in the pharmaceutical industry before joining the University at Buffalo faculty in 1969, first as a senior technician and later as an instructor of pharmaceutics.
Procknal was very involved during her time at D’Youville in activities and general student organizations. She was treasurer and later president of her class, worked on the staff of the D’Youvillian, and was a regional delegate to the National Federation of Catholic College Students.
Valarie Potrafke was so grateful for the scholarships Josephine received while attending D’Youville that she requested $160,225 to be used to establish a scholarship for incoming students in pharmacy or biology for up to eight semesters or the fulfillment of their bachelor’s degree.
D’Youville’s School of Pharmacy is recognized for excellence in education and service due to its faculty and students improving the profession and the health of their community through collaborative practice and research.
