Hockey Fall Invitational
D'Youville Hosting Intercollegiate Hockey Tournament
Buffalo, New York – October 03, 2012 – D'Youville College will host the first annual National Association of Intercollegiate Hockey Fall Invitational Tournament Friday, October 5 through Sunday October 7 at Bud Bakewell Arena in Riverside Park. (2607 Niagara St.)
Six club teams will take to the ice beginning at 5:00 p.m. Friday when the D'Youville Spartans meet the Medaille Mavericks.
Other teams participating throughout the weekend include Penn State, St. John Fisher, Hobart, and Bloomsburg.
"This showcase highlights the talents of Division III club level hockey players by bringing together local and out of area teams for a weekend filled with high energy and competition," says Ed Draper, D'Youville coach.
In what is a first for D'Youville and perhaps the Association, will be the starting goalie for the college on Saturday evening against Bloomsbury University. Lauren Orynawka, a freshman at D'Youville majoring in physical therapy, and one of the net minders for the Buffalo Stars 19U women 's team will be in goal for the Spartans.
"We were looking for a goalie and she wanted to play so it worked out well. The guys on the team are very supportive of her playing," Draper said.
The event is for teams that would not otherwise compete against each other during the season.
The NAIH is the governing body for intercollegiate hockey teams in the U.S. and Canada. Teams in the Association play under NCAA rules.
