A Historic Regular Season Campaign for D’Youville University Baseball
After a historic regular season campaign, the D'Youville University baseball team are your 2024 East Coast Conference Co-Champions. The Saints also received the No.1 seed in the ECC Championships.
"Becoming regular season champions in our first season eligible is amazing," said Head Baseball Coach Kyle McLain. "It has been years in the making. All these guys we recruited two, three, four years ago, our number one message to them was to compete for regular and postseason titles year one of being eligible at the NCAA Division II level. We didn't want to be a doormat and take a long time to win. Our student-athletes have put in the work for a long time and it's really special to see this group reach one of our goals."
Kyle McLain was named Coach of the Year after leading the Saints to a program-record 29 wins, an ECC-best 18-6 record, and their first ECC Tournament appearance.
Since becoming full-fledge NCAA Division II members in the summer of 2023, the D'Youville University baseball team is the institution's first collegiate athletic program to win a regular season conference championship.
This has been a remarkable turnaround for coach McLain and his coaching staff. After being named the head coach of the team in the summer of 2018, McLain took a program that had won two games in his inaugural season, to regular season conference championships.
Along with coach McLain being named Coach of the Year, seven Saints received All-Conference Honors: SP Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Samuel Worthen (Guelph, Ontario), C Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.), 1B Jon Simpson (Grand Island, N.Y.), 3B Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario), UTL Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.), OF Jeremy Glinski (Sloan, N.Y.).
Four players were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-East Region team with one player earning First Team honors, three players earning Second Team honors: Samuel Worthen (Guelph, Ontario), Chris Auclair (Baldwinsville, N.Y.), Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.), Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario).
Finally, the D'Youville University baseball team earned four Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association All-East Region honors. Third baseman Alec Boucher (Essex, Ontario) and relief pitcher Samuel Worthen (Guelph, Ontario) earned First Team recognition with catcher Hunter Nowak (Hamburg, N.Y.) and utility/pitcher Billy Morris (Lancaster, N.Y.) earning Second Team recognition.
