D’Youville University Increases Programs to Improve Mental Health
Buffalo, New York – July 17, 2024: D’Youville University announced today that it has received approval from the New York State Department of Education (NYSED) to offer a Clinical Psychology Doctoral (PsyD) program, with classes beginning in Fall 2024.
“Mental health is a critical component of overall well-being,” said D’Youville President Lorrie Clemo, PhD. “Our PsyD program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills to become skilled clinicians who address the holistic needs of their patients. By fostering interdisciplinary collaboration with other healthcare professionals, we are preparing graduates to excel in a complex and evolving healthcare landscape.”
D’Youville’s PsyD program stands out through its innovative Practitioner-as-Teacher Model and a robust emphasis on interprofessional collaboration. Students will learn alongside peers from over 10 other healthcare disciplines, including nursing, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy, chiropractic, physician assistant, nutrition, and exercise science. This collaborative environment mirrors real-world healthcare settings and is proven to enhance patient outcomes and job satisfaction.[1]
The rigorous program includes over 1,000 hours of supervised practicum experience, a one-year pre-doctoral internship, and a clinical dissertation. Graduates will be prepared for a variety of career paths in medical, forensic, and mental health settings, including private practice, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
