D’Youville University immerses middle/high school students in classes to solve global problems
Buffalo Prep middle school students learned how to prepare for disasters, build houses to guard against climate change issues and dived into history – all on DYU campus.
During these same summer months, WNY high school students immersed in health career exploration on campus and onsite with DYU partner Western New York Rural Area Health Education Center (WNY R-AHEC.)
High School Students were part of the HCOP grant to create a pipeline for WNY students to successfully enroll and graduate in health care programs. The students spent the past summer learning hands on in rural healthcare facilities and on campus building health care skills.
HCOP students had the full college experience staying overnight in residence halls, learning in classrooms, being part of simulation trainings as well as first aid & CPR certification, teen mental health first aid and shadowing experiences in the field. All like a university health care education when classrooms and experience meld to prepare graduates for health care professions.
