D'Youville University College Center Renamed to Saints Center
Buffalo, NY – D'Youville University announced today the renaming of its College Center to the Saints Center. This significant change marks a new era for the institution as it continues to build its athletic identity in the NCAA Division II landscape.
The renaming ceremony was attended by key university officials, including President Lorrie Clemo, PhD, Vice President of Athletics & Planning Ona Halladay, SAAC President Ian De Wilde, and DYU alum and Hall of Fame Class of 2024, Kathy Navarro Twist '74. Speakers emphasized the importance of this new chapter in D'Youville Athletics and the ongoing efforts to strengthen the Saints' presence in the NCAA.
"Today marks a new chapter in our university's history. A bold step forward as we embrace our transition to Division II athletics and continue to build on the legacy of both academic and athletic excellence at D’Youville University,” said President Lorrie Clemo, PhD.
"Today we celebrate the renaming of a space that is the hub which provides all the resources that our student athletes need to reach their goals as Saints," said Ona Halladay.
"I smiled when I heard this building will be renamed the 'Saints Center' and we call ourselves the Saints," said Twist. "It's bold, courageous, and daring… and I love it!
In addition to the renaming, D'Youville Athletics also unveiled their new fight song led by our DYU Cheer Team. The new fight song is designed to energize the crowd and celebrate the Saints' spirit.
“An inspiring aspect of this journey has been this sense of community that has been built over the past few years," said De Wilde. “…it is always important to remember our motto of 'Never Refuse to Serve', a key principle of what makes us Saints. We have many unique opportunities to serve those around us and uplift our greater community here in the West Side of Buffalo and Western New York."
As D'Youville University continues to grow and evolve, the Saints Center will serve as a central gathering place for students, athletes, and alumni. The renaming and the introduction of new athletic traditions are exciting developments that will further solidify the Saints' identity and position them for success in the years to come.
