Chiropractic Education Agreement Links D’Youville and Northwestern Health Sciences University
Buffalo, New York – January 19, 2012 – D’Youville College and Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota have entered into a first of a kind agreement in chiropractic that will allow both institutions to integrate their chiropractic programs and allow students to complete their final clinic term through an exchange program.
The agreement goes into effect this semester, according to Dr. Kathleen L. Linaker, executive director of D'Youville's Chiropractic programs. "It will give not only provide our students the opportunity to network with students and faculty from another institution; but this agreement will also serve as an opportunity for our institutions and our faculty to work together. This agreement will provide opportunities for future collaboration between D'Youville and Northwestern," she said.
Northwestern offers not only chiropractic but also has a College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a School of Massage Therapy and a College of Undergraduate Health Sciences.
D'Youville established its program in 2004 complimenting other healthcare majors at the college including occupational and physical therapy, physician assistant, pharmacy and nursing. It is only the second college in the U.S. to have a chiropractic program at a four-year multidisciplinary college.
"We are very excited about the internship exchange program between Northwestern and D'Youville. In addition to providing valuable educational opportunities for students from both colleges, the partnership strengthens the relationship between our institutions. The fact that Dr. Linaker is an alumna of Northwestern adds an additional level of gratification. We look forward to the implementation of this program and to future endeavors with D'Youville.," says Renee M. DeVries, DC, DACBR, dean of the College of Chiropractic at Northwestern Health Sciences University.
Dr. Linaker and Dr. Stephen J. Zajac, associate clinical professor and Coordinator of Chiropractic Clinical Services at D'Youville, will direct the program.
