D’Youville College Receives $100,000 State Grant Secured by Senator Tim Kennedy
Buffalo, New York – October 09, 2017 – Lorrie Clemo, PhD, president of D’Youville College, was joined Thursday, Oct. 5, by Senator Tim Kennedy (D-Buffalo) to announce that the College has received a $100,000 state grant secured by Kennedy. The grant will support the $470,000 renovation of four floors of the College’s Marguerite Hall, first constructed in 1966.
The project consists of the renovation of two full floors of student residences, totaling 28 rooms, as well as two floors of student lounges, totaling four rooms. Additionally, four floors of restroom facilities, eight in total, will be modernized. This work includes demolition, drywall, painting, cabinetry, carpeting, tile repair and replacement, plumbing, and new lighting.
D’Youville President Lorrie Clemo, PhD said, “Funding announced today will provide much needed state-of-the-art technology and design features that will promote socialization in a comfortable living space; updating the residence to the standards expected by today’s students. It is important that students feel at home here at D’Youville, not just in the classroom but also here where they live. This funding will help us to provide that”
“As a proud D’Youville alumnus, I know firsthand how important this school is to our community,” said Senator Tim Kennedy, a 1999 D’Youville graduate. “When the opportunity came up to help support a school that is training so many of the young professionals that our region relies on, I jumped at the chance. These renovations will ensure that the next generation of D’Youville graduates can enjoy the modern amenities they need to complete their studies. Congratulations to D’Youville as they move forward on this project, and I look forward to continuing to work with them as they lead the way in educating our future workforce.
“This investment is going to ensure that students who come in from out of town, from out of state, and from out of the country, get the wonderful education D’Youville has to offer, to have a place to call their home, to have the most technologically advanced apartments and residences here at D’Youville College, a place the students are deserving of.”
