D’Youville President Lorrie Clemo named “Visionary Leader” by The Education Magazine

Buffalo, New York – November 19th, 2021 – The Education Magazine, a top digital platform covering global educational trends and updates about colleges and universities, named D’Youville President Lorrie A. Clemo, PhD, as one of the “10 Most Visionary Education Leaders of 2020.”

The Education Magazine referred to Clemo as “a pacesetter making a difference in higher education” and credited her for the institution’s swift actions in addressing the COVID-19 crisis last year as the first university in Western New York to digitize classrooms and move students, faculty, and staff to a remote environment when the pandemic shutdown began.

President Clemo guided numerous other programs to success during the challenging year, including offering accelerated graduation to frontline workers, pivoting to free 24/7 student support programs such as TimelyMD, offering a free summer of learning program to help keep high school students on track for college, the move to Division II athletics, the ECIDA refinancing approval, securing funding for nearly the entire cost of building the Health Professions Hub, and then the launch of related health services helping ease the pressures of the pandemic.

It is also worth noting two campus modernization initiatives, both the Health Professions Hub and the Koessler Administration Building renovations which were taking place throughout the pandemic, were recognized with top design awards by Buffalo Business First ‘Brick-by-Brick’ award and the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Buffalo/Western New York.

The common thematic element seen throughout is a continuous culture of service,

following in the footsteps of the Grey Nuns and our patroness St. Marguerite d’Youville. “While D’Youville’s primary purpose is to educate students in the humanities, business, and health professions, it places that purpose upon a calling to ‘never refuse to serve,’” Clemo says.
