D’Youville University welcomes Dr. Fehmi Damkaci as Dean of School of Arts, Sciences and Education & Director of Doctoral Students and Research Center.
D’Youville University is pleased to announce the appointment of Fehmi Damkaci, PhD, as the Dean of School of Arts, Sciences and Education & Director of Doctoral Students and Research Center.
D’Youville has focused on visionary leadership since its inception to meet the needs of the community. As the institute has become a University the focus has expanded to global needs. The Doctoral Institute will focus on cutting edge research through hands on experience, research and interdisciplinary connections across the globe. “We are thrilled that Dr. Damkaci is joining us,” said D’Youville University President Lorrie Clemo, PhD. “His teaching, leadership and research will spur us to increase research collaboration opportunities for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students and develop relationships around the globe.”
In the search for the director of the doctoral institute and Dean, the University was focused on finding an outstanding individual who would be a hands-on, inspirational and collaborative leader, focused on the success and holistic development of our students and with a proven commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Dr. Damkaci has a demonstrable record of achievement in all of the above. He believes that increased efficiency and collaboration in an organization expands satisfaction, productivity, and trust, all of which translates into student success.
“In a dual role as Dean of the School of Arts, Sciences and Education, Dr. Damkaci will bring his experience in development of undergraduate research and other programs that enrich students’ experiences to DYU,” says D’Youville Vice President for Academic Affairs Natalia Blank, PhD.
Dr. Damkaci is currently a full professor of Chemistry and the chair of the Chemistry Department at SUNY Oswego. Dr. Damkaci holds a PhD and MS in Organic Chemistry from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a BS in Chemistry from Ege University, Izmir, Turkey. He is also a recipient of multiple certificates in higher education leadership and administration, public diplomacy, and effective pedagogy practices. Over the course of his career, Dr. Damkaci published over 20 peer-reviewed articles, many with student co-authors, presented over 50 times on the topics of chemistry and pedagogy, and received over $4.6M in external grant funding.
