Grant to Help Students Focus on Geriatric Care

Buffalo, New York – D’Youville College has received a $36,000 grant extension from the Community Health Foundation of Western and Central New York that will provide scholarships to a total of six physician assistant students and nurse practitioner students who will have advanced training in geriatric care.

Its purpose is to encourage an enhanced emphasis on geriatric care through additional clinical and research experience for those ‘PA’ and ‘NP’ students selected for the program.

The original grant was $18,000 and awarded in 2009. Grant provisions require the selected students to complete an additional four-week (160 hours) clinical rotation in geriatrics and an original research project in geriatrics.

“The Physician Assistant Department and its students appreciate the support of the Community Health Foundation of WNY and Central New York to help our students focus on the vital area of geriatrics. The program has had great outcomes and we look forward to its continuation,” said Dr. Maureen F. Finney, chair of the department.

D’Youville currently enrolls 175 physician assistant students.
