Senator Tim Kennedy Visits D’Youville, Issues Proclamation

Buffalo, New York – September 26, 2017 – D’Youville alum and State Senator, Tim Kennedy, ’99, returned to campus to give a proclamation congratulating President Lorrie Clemo, PhD, on her inauguration as college president and to award a $100,000 grant to assist in renovations to Marguerite Hall.

The proclamation from Senator Kennedy acknowledges President Clemo’s college-wide celebration taking place on September 29, when she will officially become the 15th president of the College. President Clemo began her tenure as president in January 2017, focusing on listening sessions and gathering information, recruiting strategic personnel, and building on D’Youville’s past while working towards boosting enrollment and adding future-forward programs.

D’Youville sought a state grant to offset the estimated $335,000 cost in renovating floors of Marguerite Hall, which includes renovating two floors of residences and lounges and four floors of restrooms. Renovations are scheduled to commence in the spring of 2018, following students moving out for the summer semester. Built in the 1960s, Marguerite Hall houses over 300 students attending classes at D’Youville.

Senator Tim Kennedy, ’99, is a lifelong Western New York resident. When not representing constituents in Albany, he lives with his wife and family in Buffalo. Senator Kennedy received his masters in occupational therapy at D’Youville. He credits his college experience as opening his eyes to the needs and struggles of people in the region and compelling him to ascend to a leadership role where he could help people.

Besides Senator Kennedy, the larger Kennedy family also has ties to D’Youville — his mother, Mary Kennedy, ’68, received her bachelor of science in nursing from D’Youville and currently teaches in the School of Nursing and Kennedy’s sister, Margaret Mulderig, ’95, graduated with a degree from D’Youville’s Department of Physical Therapy.
