Center for Research on Physical Activity, Sport & Health

Research designed to make a difference.

The D'Youville Center for Research on Physical Activity, Sport & Health (CRPASH) designs, conducts, and disseminates cutting-edge research on the links among physical activity, sport, and health. CRPASH operates as an organizational catalyst for interdisciplinary research projects that foster education, policy development, and public health initiatives. We also specialize in getting knowledge and policy "off the shelf" and into communities, schools, and media, where it promises to impact people's lives.

Don Sabo, Ph.D. professor Emeritus at D’Youville University, spent more than 30 years teaching and mentoring. He founded and directed the Center for Research on Physical Activity, Sport and Health (CRPASH) and received D’Youville Scholar of the Year.

A pro-feminist sociologist and researcher, Professor Sabo is an internationally recognized expert on gender equity in sports, and how athletic opportunities interface with gender, race/ethnicity, and economic disparities. He is the former Research and Policy Institute Director of the Women’s Sports Foundation, where he directed the development of its first national policy on sexual harassment in athletic settings and directed and/or co-authored over 30 nationwide research reports.

A former NCAA Division I-A defensive football captain, Dr. Sabo worked with other scholars to develop men’s health studies and research around public health advocacy. He’s authored eight books and countless book chapters and scholarly papers.

CRPASH was endowed in 2002 by a generous gift from Deborah Slaner Larkin through the MARGARET Fund.
